PunctualityPunctuality is a golden feature, a quality we all most have in order to succeed in life.

Punctuality is the easiest way to prove that you are organized, respectful and caring for other people. Being able to organize you own time, as said before (see Time Management) is a key element for an efficient way of living. By not being punctual, you show people that you have no respect and consideration for their own agenda, and that is because the fact that once they have to wait for you, their whole schedule is compromised for the day.

But the first person who suffers from your inability to make it on time is yourself. Here are some main ideas you should have in mind if you’re not punctual:

• You risk missing important meetings with important people who won’t give you the opportunity to get together again. Either in your professional life or your personal one, you will feel the importance of that loss.

• You make people uncomfortable by making them wait for you. Even if you announce your being late, it still causes them to fill not so well, especially when you do it on a regular basis.

• You make yourself uncomfortable. On arriving after you’re already late, you’ll have to excuse yourself again and again and this will cause an artificial element in your conversation.

• People lose their trust in you. Once you announce your arrival at a certain hour and you don’t get there in time, it’s a promise you weren’t capable to keep. In other words and in other’s eyes, you are not a committed person.

• You lose even your closest friends. On a regular basis, arriving late is really annoying even for people who love spending their time with you. You’ll see that people lose their patience in waiting for you over and over again. And they are right.

Maybe you never felt the need to think about it and maybe it’s not a common thing to think about, but now that you’ve seen the importance of being “on tine”, you’ll be interested into the following tips that will help you get punctual:

• Plan your wardrobe. When going to a meeting or at work, decide on what you are going to wear, one day before. Check the weather channels to make an idea about how the weather will be like and then plan your clothes.

• Keep your important things where you can see them. Things like car keys, cell phone, favorite lipstick, and bag agenda are the main things that keep people from getting on time.

• Get a good night sleep so you can wake up in the morning.

• At work, set an alarm to announce you a half an hour before an important meeting.

• Arrange your daily work so that you won’t miss the important meeting because of something you didn’t do or didn’t finished and can’t be postponed.

• Keep an agenda. Sometimes you’re late because you remember on the last moment.

• Don’t count on your friends’ feelings about you. They may like you but even if they’re your friends and you don’t have to be very official with them, they are still human beings that deserve to be respected in all ways.

Being punctual respects people you spend time with and shows that you are a respectable person with a strong system of values. It makes people enjoy the time you spend together and in the end, it makes you feel good about yourself.
